A beloved Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor was the victim of a homicide on Wednesday night.
Ramon Diaz,a 4th degree bjj black belt under Joe Moreira and owner of Palm Springs Jiu-Jitsu, was found dead in 31-300 block of Whispering Palms Trail in Cathedral City on Wednesday evening.
Diaz of Palm Springs Jiu Jitsu was coming back from training at his academy on Wednesday night. He was found outside his home “suffering from trauma to the body” and died on the way to the hospital. No suspects have been named yet.
Zaid Ramirez, a student and instructor at Palm Springs Jiu-Jitsu, said that Ramon Diaz treated all his students and friends with respect and had a great sense of humor.
“He treated everyone immediately like family,” he told desertsun.com
Ramirez said Diaz had a great sense of humor, and that his students would always joke with him about his always wanting to take pictures and how long it took his old Samsung phone to snap the shots. He would joke back that his camera was buffering.

RIP to the Amazing Man who introduced me to BJJ and MMA. Ramon Diaz was my first instructor & I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be where I am today pic.twitter.com/xjUQU6CQ7m
